Chief Operating Officer

The Old Beechworth Gaol is a purpose led, impact focussed, for-profit social enterprise. It has an ambitious growth agenda centred around building a world-class, cultural tourism asset and visitor experience at the Old Beechworth Gaol (‘the Gaol) in North-East Victoria.

The Old Beechworth Gaol is a significant structure in the post European invasion history of Australia and provides a unique canvas to develop a contemporary, world-class cultural visitor experience.

Position Summary

The COO reports to the Board. The Board will delegate authority and primary accountability for the organisations overall performance and management to the COO role.

The COO will work with and through the Board in developing a longer-term purpose led strategy and an annual business plan and budget. The COO will lead the execution of this strategy in accordance with the purpose and approved annual business plan and programs in pursuit of the site’s world-class cultural tourism visitor experience aspiration.

The Successful Applicant

The Board is keen to appoint an executive or executive ready applicant who brings strategic, commercial and values focused experience ideally in a cultural tourism sector or a demonstrably transferable context. You will demonstrate a track record of delivering strong, yet sustainable, commercial outcomes.

Your experience may include the development and implementation of ticketed contemporary multi genre, arts and cultural programs and exhibitions, education programs, public programs using technology and digital media.

The successful applicant will also demonstrate strong people leadership, entrepreneurial and programming flair and an innovative, can do mindset to create an inspirational visitor experience that while respectfully paying homage to its historical roots and place has a keen eye on the future and what a world class, multi genre, program, across the site, can deliver.
