OBG: Reimagining Place, Guided by People.

We were so thrilled when Cat and Leisha got in contact about our disused pool site - yes there is a pool here in the Old Beechworth Gaol grounds.

Why and when a swimming pool?

1951 saw a change to the once hard prison and it became a training prison for straight sentenced prisoners with the aim of providing rehabilitation and acquiring new skills. Construction began for new facilities which were able to provide education, accommodation and recreation.

The swimming pool was first constructed in 1957 for the recreation of prisoners and then rebuilt in 1995 to fix the multiple leaks.

Fast forward to 2024 - it's been used for the recording of a music video!

North East Victoria's creative scene is full of talented people across many genres and through programming and activation of the site, OBG is here to support these creative endevours.

Cat and Leisha approached us here at OBG as they had heard about the disused swimming pool and with the name of their new album and feature song being - Punching Under Water - this all made perfect sense.

We were thrilled to able to be a part of this music video production.

Check out this Behind the Scenes clip that explains what they were up to and their connection to North East Vic’s creative scene and this unique location for a music video!
